A short break amid scenery that inspired poets, this beautiful region of Britain is the Lake District. We stay in Keswick, an old market town and now a busy Lakeland resort, which lies snuggled along the shores of Lake Derwentwater with the Skiddaw Mountains watching over this lovely town.
Day 1 We leave Chelmsford at 7.00am depending on your local pick up point and we travel to Keswick with stops en route arriving at The Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick early evening.
Day 2 Free time in Keswick this morning, after lunch we enjoy a short drive along the beautiful Borrowdale Valley with a visit to Grassmere, returning to enjoy all the beautiful scenery that the Lake District has to offer on our way back to the hotel.
Day 3 ‘High Adventure’ awaits today as the ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go! Nothing in Britain surpasses the grandeur of Lakeland’s central mountains. Over the Wrynose and Hardnott Passes from Langdale to Eskdale. After traversing the passes we stop at the roman Fort 1,000ft up on the fells. You have the opportunity to walk through the fort and see the fantastic view to upper Eskdale, Scarfell and Scarfell Pike, England’s highest mountains We take a ride on the miniature Ravensglass and Eskdale railway before a lunch stop at one of the valley inns. In the afternoon we drive to Wastwater, Britains favourite view and take in the magnificent views. From here we head north over Cold Fell and alongside Loweswater, though Lorton Valley and over Whinlatter Pass to the visitors centre for a refreshment stop, look out for the red squirrels. On out journey back to Keswick we see Bassenthwaite Lake and pass by Thirlmere, Grassmere and Rydal Water. A tour not to be missed.
Day 4 A full day tour via Ullswater where we can enjoy a morning included cruise viewing the length of Ullswater, before rejoining the coach and traveling over the Kirkstone Pass to Windermere. Free time here for lunch and shopping, before we head to Ambleside and Grassmere past Helvellyn the mighty mountain, back into Keswick.
Day 5 We make our way home via the roman road to Appleby and Brough in the Dales arriving in Chelmsford about 7.30pm.

Keswick’s premier hotel is situated in the town centre, only minutes away from Lake Derwentwater. The hotel and ground floor has recently been transformed with a new air-conditioned restaurant. All rooms en-suite with TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, telephone and a lift to all floors. There is a lovely resident’s lounge overlooking the Market Square and a comfortable and attractive lounge bar area.
