Wherever you are in Devon you’re never far from dramatic coastlines, friendly resorts and magnificent scenery. Devon offers spectacular stretches of coastline where moors and country meet the sea: sandy beaches, historic villages, quaint cobbled flower-clad streets and dreamy cream teas. Historic Barnstaple provides the setting for our North Devon short break. Barnstaple is reputedly England’s oldest borough and we have created a delightful programme with an excellent hotel.
Day 1 After your early morning pick up we head over to the West country stopping for coffee and lunch on the way, before continuing our journey south into the beautiful county of Devon and onto Barnstaple arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 2 Our excursion today begins with a visit to the ancient seaport of Bideford, delightfully set on the banks of the River Torridge. From here we have a short drive to the market town of Great Torrington where we have time to purchase an early lunch before continuing to the Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Rosemoor, we spend the afternoon here before returning to the hotel.
Day 3 Today is Market day in Barnstable and we have the morning free to explore the town with it’s elegant Georgian buildings. This afternoon we have a short drive to visit Arlington Court (entrance included) an intimate and intriguing treasure house in the care of the National Trust
Day 4 Today we have an excursion amidst the glorious scenery of Exmoor and the North Devon Coast. We drive right through the heart of scenic Exmoor to the pretty little down of Dunster in Somerset with its wealth of heritage and history, from the National Trust’s 11th Century Dunster Castle to the Old Yarn Market in the middle of the High Street. We shall stop for a while before joining the amazing coast road for a fabulous drive to Lynton and Lymouth, the pretty twins towns linked by a water-powered funicular railway.
Day 5 Sadly we must leave Barnstaple and travel homewards, We journey to Marlborough for the lunch period later we continue our homewards stopping en route for refreshments, arriving in the Chelmsford area in the early evening.

Located in the ancient market town of Barnstaple, a five minutes walk to the main shopping street, the Park Hotel is an excellent base for enjoying the great scenic beauty of North Devon. All en-suite bedrooms have colour satellite TV, radio, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities. There are two bars and the hotel carvery meals are especially popular. There is no lift, but all bedrooms are on the first floor accessible by stairs. There are some ground floor rooms available.
